Duke University seeks to raise $300 million in endowment for financial aid by the end of 2008-$245 million for undergraduate scholarships and $55 million for graduate and professional school students.
To help Duke meet this goal, a small group of donors, led by The Duke Endowment of Charlotte, North Carolina, has committed an unprecedented $100 million in challenge funds to encourage new gifts for financial aid endowment.
Endowment gifts become a permanent source of financial support for the thousands of Duke students receiving aid every year. Gifts are invested, and a portion of the annual earnings is spent on student aid while the rest remains invested. In this way, endowment funds continue to grow and become an even greater source of funding for students in the future.
