In 2005, Duke launched an effort to raise $300 million in endowment by the end of 2008 for need-based undergraduate aid, athletic scholarships, and graduate and professional student support.By the close of 2007, Duke had raised more than 80 percent of this goal and was able to introduce enhancements that will benefit virtually all undergraduate need-based aid recipients.

But these enhancements – and indeed the success of the entire initiative – depend on Duke’s ability to complete fund-raising for its largest and most important goal: permanent endowment for need-based undergraduate aid.
